Terrorists Using ‘Second Life’ for Training

July 31, 2007 by · Leave a Comment

Run out of Afghanistan, terrorists are using the virtual reality environment, Second Life, as a big TERRORIST TRAINING CAMP. There are two “elite jihadist terrorist groups” on the site, and at least two known terrorists registered. “Terrorism” inside the game, including atomic bomb attacks committed by members of a group called Second Life Liberation Army, are reportedly used by both al-Qa’ida and Jemaah Islamiah to train “home-grown Australian jihadists who are rehearsing for strikes against real targets.”

iPhone Firmware Update 1.01: Let there be folders

July 31, 2007 by · Leave a Comment

Now that was a pleasant surprise, I noticed that all my folders in setup on my Exchange explanation were suddenly populated. And when I go into each of those folders, my emails started populating. It’s now even possible to save emails to any of those folders.

I didn’t see anyway to create or delete a folder though. Shrug, oh well.

Update: perhaps I’m second guessing myself, but prior to the update the only three folders I saw were Deleted Items, Drafts and Sent Items. Now I see ALL my folders!

Apple just released the iPhone Firmware 1.01 defense update that plug various holes in Safari. that is only a shield update with no new features that I can find. On the plus side, it will compose your iPhone much more secure.

What’s been your most expensive monthly phone bill?  $150?  $300?  I once ran up a $600+ bill while at uni, and my parents certain weren’t happy.  But now even my excesses are plunged into the shade, with AT&T’s charge of an astounding $3000 for Dave Stolt.

Video review: SoundID SM100 EarModule Bluetooth Headset

July 31, 2007 by · Leave a Comment

SoundID SM100 EarModuleThe SoundID SM100 Bluetooth headset is one of the most advanced on the market. The SM100 offers three industry-first features: personal sound where you can personalize the headset to your specific sound preferences, Environmental Mode turns the headset into a hearing-aide-like device for loud environment and NoiseNavigational Mode where the device uses its “Auto Focus for your ears” technology to reduce ambient noise for better speech and sound quality.

Other features include One2One mode that allows you to use two SM100 EarModules as a Walkie-talkie. While that is a nifty Star Trek like feature, I’m just not certain how useful it is since the range of Bluetooth isn’t all that great. The switch amidst PhoneMode and Environmental mode is a nice touch. You can set specific sound volumes for each mode. VoiceCapture is suppose to do a better job at picking up your voice and produce it much more clearer for the person on the other end, but that doesn’t always work out too well. The second to best feature is the wind protection. I tested the headset with my windows down driving on the highway at 65MPH with Chris on the other end. The aftermath? While Chris was able to tell I was in my car with the windows down and the wind blowing by, he was able to clearly produce my voice. Now that’s really damn impressive.
